The capitol of Colorado for five short days in 1862 ( before the designation relocated to Denver), and the oldest established city in the Pikes Peak region (1859), Old Colorado City is steeped in colorful history as the former stomping grounds of gold mill employees and miners. Immediately West of Colorado Springs between Downtown and Manitou Springs, it features many shops and restaurants making it a popular local tourist attraction. Nearby hiking trails are available at Bear Creek Regional Park and Red Rock Canyon, Which has rock formations similar to Garden of the Gods. Homes in the area consist of condos, town houses, and single-family homes. They tend to be historic homes in relatively affordable price ranges.
